If the return address is in the same country as the original destination address, and provided the full address and zip code / postcode details are provided, nothing further is required after the return address.

If the return address is not in the same country as the destination address, then the return address should also state the name of the country in which the return address is located. The country name is often written below the zip code / postcode.

The Universal postal convention recommends that the name of the place of destination and the name of the country of destination be written in CAPITAL LETTERS together with the correct postcode number or delivery zone number, if any.

Some companies write "If undelivered, please return to: " above their return address on the envelope.

How do you address an envelope?

In the direct center of the envelope write who you wish to address the mailing content to. Under the recepients name you will then write their house number/business number followed by the street they live on. Below the street address, write the town followed by a comma followed by the town. Beside the town name you will write the postal code. For example: Johnny Appleseed 123 Circle Drive Anywhere, Texas, 12345

How can you find someones forward address?

You can get someone's forwarding address from the Post Master but they have specific instructions on what to place on the envelope. In this case you send a letter to the old address and right below the return address you place the words ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED. There will be a service fee for this which you would pay when the new address is sent back to you. It is generally a photo copy of your letter with the new address sticker placed on your envelope that you will receive back. Below is the link to the USPS rules for this service and others in "Related Links" Another way is to go to the central post office for the address in question, and fill out a "Freedom of Information Act Request Form" requesting the forwarding address for the person or family in question.

How do you write the address you want to send to on an envelope?

What is the proper way to address an envelope to a 12 year old boy?

In the center of the envelope, on the side without the flap, write a line containing his name, and then on a line below that, write his street address. On a line below that, write the city, state/province/, and country in which he lives. On the same line OR on a line below that, write his zip code. In the upper left hand corner, write the same information about yourself. This is called a 'return address', and will only be used if the letter for some reason needs to be returned to the sender (you). By the way, these instructions apply to virtually EVERY letter you will ever need to send, unless it's to a business or something.

Should the suite number or the word personal be located below the return address on a business envelope?

No, the Suite # would be given in the second, or maybe the third line (if the second line is too long) of a return address. The word, PERSONAL, in BLOCK LETTERS, would be placed about 1-inch above the bottom of the envelope's edge, on the left (same side as the return address). This indication would be on the same level, therefore, of the 2nd line of the "To" address.Example of Suite in a return address:Box, Box and Sons, Inc.555555 This Is Fake DriveFloor 5, Suite 555BFake City, Fake State Zip CodeOr it could be:Jar, Jar, and Bros., Inc.2020 Fake Road Suite 2020Fake City, Fake State Zip Code
