Ellington was born in Washington, D.C., taking piano lessons as a child. By the time he was a teenager he was playing at many local functions and venues. According to Mark Tucker's "Ellington, The Early Years," he was playing with professionals by 1917. That would be in and around Washington.

Morecambe and Wise first began performing in 1941, however, they did not perform as a duo at this time, but were booked to perform separately at the same theater. Due to the Second World War, the act broke up, but in 1946 by coincidence they met up again at Swansea theater and began to perform together as a double act.
The first successful purpose-built playhouse was James Burbage's The Theater, built in Snoreditch, North of London, in 1576. The place is Shoreditch, and I believe the Globe precedes this
