Essentially, Germany, Italy, and Japan lost World War II because they ran out of resources. They lost too many men and materiel to win.
They made Germany take the blame because Germany was the most aggressive, although Serbia had really started it by assassinating the new Austria-Hungarian King. This was followed up by Russia warning Austria that if they attacked Serbia, Russia would attack Austria-Hungary. A-H called Germany to support them if Russia helped, then Russia called French for support. When French realized they would lose, they called Great Britain who didn't really want to join, but joined in. Later on in the war, Austria-Hungary left the war, leaving Germany on it's own. Soon, Great Britain, France and Russia began losing vs Germany and Italy who joined Great Britain later on as Germany began losing when America joined

The politic, economic and military interests of Austria, which feared to lose its predominance in both Countries and in the Adriatic Sea. In Germany, the foreign policy of France, which supported the national interests of the single Western and Southern German States in order to avoid that a strong, united German Nation were to be formed closed to its eastern borders. In the final weeks of WW1 Austria-Hungary disintegrated altogether. This is what happened to its territory: *The new state of Czechoslovakia (corresonding rough to the present Czech and Slovak republics) was created from its territory. *Part went to the revived nation of Poland. *Substantial parts went to Serbia to create the them new country of Yugoslavia, which in turn has disintegrated in the last 10-15 years. *Romania almost doubled in size at the expense of Austria-Hungary. *Italy gained a few relatively small areas. *The link between Austria and Hungary was broken. Union between Austria and Germany (including even a customs union) was forbidden. Joncey
