Sikorsky was an aircraft engineer and only peripherally involved with snow vehicles. the famous S-l7 which was in effect a long-range patrol bomber and could be used and was, as a spy plane had various types of landing gear, for different missions, wheels, skids and runners for snow ops ( this may be what you are thinking of) and pontoons for naval operations. The most advanced version the Type V Ilya Mourometz- or Russian Knight- named after a medieval Russian soldier- hence the name- was a big hit. about 8l were deployed, only two were knocked out from enemy action, many survived the war, some, we don:t know how many- may be museum pieces in US and in Russia!
He was born in the year 1889.
Igor Sikorski invented helicopter in the year 1906.

Sikorsky Air, which is an aircraft manufacturer that is and was based in the United States of America, was first opened in the year of 1924, in the U.S.
1927 Carl Eliason of Sayner developed the prototype of the modern snowmobile in the 1920s when he mounted a two-cylinder motorcycle engine on a long sled, steered it with skis under the front, and propelled it with single, endless track. Eliason made 40 snowmobiles, patented in 1927.

The very first piloted helicopter was invented by Paul Cornu in 1907, however, this design was not successful. French inventor, Etienne Oehmichen built and flew a helicopter one kilometer in 1924. Another early helicopter that flew for a decent distance was the German Focke-Wulf Fw 61, invented by an unknown inventor. Igor Sikorsky is considered to be the "father" of helicopters not because he invented the first. He is called that because he invented the first successful helicopter, upon which further designs were based. One of aviation's greatest designers, Russian born Igor Sikorsky began work on helicopters as early as 1910.
