The first to fly was NOT the Wright brothers, it was actually a man called Richard Pearse.
Sorry about the idiot who originally posted America, but Richard Pearse actually lived in Temuka, which is in South Canterbury, New Zealand. New Zealand, for those geographically challenged, is a small country to the east of Australia, known for being the first to see the sun. Pearse was actually the first man in the world to fly.

Amelia flew her first plane in 1921.

In America you could ba any age to fly a plane but you had to be atleast 18 to join the army some 16 year olds lied about their age to get to fly a plane.
The Wright Brothers (Orville and Wilbur, but Orville first) are credited with the first manned flight of a powered aircraft (not a glider), in December, 1903. Richard Pearse of New Zealand, among others, had flown powered aerial vehicles around the same time. Pearse's single-wing machine, especially, was more like modern aircraft than the Wright's, although they used a stalled-wing (kite) lifting design rather than an airfoil. He may have flown first, but his best-documented flights were not until 1904.
No, he can fly in a plane but is not a pilot.
