He didn't invent it. Teddy Roosevelt went hunting in Mississippi. After several days of bad luck, the locals did not want Roosevelt to go home empty-handed, so they captured a bear, tied it to a tree, and told Teddy Roosevelt to kill it. Roosevelt thought it was unfair, refused to shoot it, and let it go. The incident was captured in an editorial cartoon by Clifford Berryman, "Drawing the Line in Mississippi."
A toy maker named Morris Mitchtom found out about that and named his stuffed bear "Teddy's bear" as a marketing ploy. That was the year 1902. The toy was successful. Mitchtom later went on to found the Ideal Toy Company.
Well, he inspired the teddy bear, Roosevelt was on a hunting trip with others, and no luck, the other men tethered a baby bear to a tree for Roosevelt to shoot, but he refused, and a store owner found this out he made a stuffed bear model and called it "Teddy's Bear". That was the first teddy bear.
He didn't "invent" it but he is responsible for the "Teddy Bear"---the cuddly, stuffed toy bear. Presidet Roosevelt was hunting bear in Mississippi and he saw one to shoot but he decided not to shoot it. Someone made a suffed toy bear to him and it became known as the Teddy Bear.
