The Labour Party in Great Britain. The name was (almost) changed to 'New Labour'. Some may well think Kier Hardie is still spinning ! There is an argument that Blairs' administration has given us (the British) the most conservative government we have ever had. However in modern terms he has been seen to lead Britain into the 21st century & timed his exit very well indeed, given the doo doo his successor seems to be wading through ! The jury is still out on his legacy, though many on the right of the political spectrum seem to find him odious, so he can't be all bad ! He was never seen as the darling of the left of the Labour Party either, and it might be argued therefore he dominated the centre ground of the political scene, and if it's the position which gets power, then what else might be seen to matter ? He also had the epithet of "Bushs' Poodle" in his support for the war in Iraq & Afghanistan. What is undeniable is that he was/is very photgenic & comes across well in the media.

Tony Blair took office as Prime Minister in May 1997 in a landslide victory over John Major's Conservative Government, and after moving Britain's Labour Party to the right and effectively abandoning it's credentials.

He resigned from office in September 2007 after growing discontent over his readiness to take Britain into the Iraq War that toppled Saddam Hussein when all evidence showed that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction as Blair had claimed, and that such 'evidence' as Blair produced had been fabricated by British intelligence service MI6.

Tony Blair was (and still is as far as anyone knows) a member of the Labour party and had been a Labour MP since 1983. Tony Blair resigned from parliament within hours of standing-down as Prime Minister.
