William the Conqueror first built the artificial hill and the wooden structure of the castle between 1070 and 1086. A paint restorer was working on the current restoration taking place in the Queen's Private Chapel in 1992. He was using a 1,000-watt halogen lamp for his work. At about 11:33 AM the lamp caught a curtain on fire. One of the upgrades over the years was an alarm system and the Fire Brigade was alerted.
It was caught on fire as the lamp set a curtain on fire (basically) :)
Windsor Castle caught fire on 20th November 1992.

Windsor Castle attracted 880,000 visitors (2000-01: 1.1 million)
They spend weekends at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, Christmas and New Year at Sandringham in Norfolk and their summer holidays at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Depending on the season and events that were taking place during the year she lived in different places. She had many homes. She lived in Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Osborne House (Isle of Wight) and Balmoral Castle.
That was Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. I should know I was there.

The earliest castle at the site of Windsor Castle was built in 1070. The oldest building still there was built in 1154. So you might say it is 940, or 856, or just say about 900.
