The first Chinese Dynasty would be the almost mythical Xia Dynasty which supposedly existed from 2070 - c. 1600 BCE. The Shang Dynasty officially overthrew the Xia at 1600 BCE and is according to existing Chinese archaeologists, the first Chinese dynasty, based on Ancient Ruins.

However, for the Chinese, Chinese civilization began with Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors period or 三皇五帝, 2852 BC 2070 BCE. This period marks the beginning of China as a civilization. During that period, semi-mythical kings are said to have helped introduce the use of fire, taught people how to build houses and invented farming. The discovery of medicine and silk, the invention of the calendar and first proto-Chinese script are also credited to the kings of that legendary era.
