Catholics. Not true. The Church of England has it's roots dating back to the Saxon's in the 6th century. The form of religion practised in England has changed several times (Henry VIII formed the Anglican Church, Mary switch back to Catholicism, then Elizabeth I back to Anglican). Whichever they have been, they are all "Church of England" based on the location of the practice. The current form, dates from Elizabeth I - Anglican.
No. He created the Church of England.
After King Henry viii established the church of England it was the religion of the state of England for the entire rule of king Henry and his son King Edward. So the people of England had been following the church for quite sometime. Queen Mary had moved back into the country to rule after a self imposed exile for a long period of time. She had been raised catholic and re-introduced it to England where people had not been allowed to observe that religion for quite sometime. People often have a hard time releasing the values and religions they were raised with, therefore there was a lot of resistance to the catholic religion when Mary tried to reintroduce it.
Although King Henry VIII founded the Protestant Church of England, in reality it wasn't that far from the Catholic Church. It was Edward I and more importantly Queen Elizabeth I who really introduced Protestant theology into the Church of England. Queen Elizabeth was known for her religious toleration, allowing any religious group to flourish as long as she was never politically threatened. She was also the queen during the defeat of the Spanish Armada, which signaled a shift in power from Spain to England. The English Renaissance, when Shakespeare wrote, occurred during her reign.
King Henry VIII was a Protestant Christian- mainly because the Catholic church would not grant him a divorce he wanted from one of his wives. Henry was a Catholic and was a member of the oldest Catholic Church in Europe, the Church in England! As far as I know he didn't abandon the Church and indeed it was the proud boast of one of his Bishops, Bonner? that Henry accepted 8 Catholic Councils! Further more, Henry and the Catholics in England held to the old style catholicism of the first thousand years, where power was held from the apostles to the college of bishops through the Councils. It is a nonsense to say that Henry was a protestant, if anything he was a supporter of the position held by the Orthodox!
The Queen is head of the Church of England. This dates back to Henry the eighth when he broke away from the Catholic church and proclaimed himself as head of the Church of England.
There was no official religion of Georgia Colony. The main religion was the Anglican Church. Other religions included the First African Baptist Church and Judaism. Catholicism was banned until 1777.
Queen Mary the first brought England back to its original religion.
because they are afraid that England would come back to the Catholic church
A:Yes. If you wish to remain a Christian but join a different denomination of Christianity, it can be as easy as attending the church of your choice and talking to the local minister, who will guide you in joining his church. For other religions, such as Buddhism, simply go to the temple or other place of worship and discuss the matter with one of the priests or monks. Be aware that the Catholic Church will regard your move as a grave sin, but that will no longer be a matter of concern to you..AnswerYes and no. From the viewpoint of the Church, once you are baptized Catholic, there is an ontological change in what you are, you are now something different, a child of God, and, since God has made that change, nobody can change you back, so to speak. Thus, once you are baptized Catholic, you remain a Catholic until you die. From the surface viewpoint, you could stop attending the Catholic Church, and stop participation in the sacraments, and "join" another Church or no Church at all, but that would just make you a Catholic who was living in sin; it would change your practice of religion, but it would not change your religion.
They were escaping from the authority and persecution of the Church of England (the Anglican Church). They sought to practice their faith in a new land, unimpeded by the English authorities.
Mary felt that England had to return to the Catholic faith. She had many people killed for opposing her. Mary almost had Elizabeth killed but Elizabeth managed to appease her sister and pretend to be Catholic. After Mary died of cancer, Elizabeth went back to the Church of England. She was not as extreme as her sister. She was tolerant of other religions as long as as they did not try to change her rules.
