Joan was found to be a virgin, The bishop tried unsuccessfully to find that she was a heretic but Joan said not one word that was contrary to Church teaching. He then found an obscure mandate in the Old Testament forbidding women to wear men's clothing and prosecuted her on this. She was forced to sign an agreement to stop wearing the clothing of a man but was tricked into doing so. She was found guilty of being a relapsed heretic because of this and burned at the stake. An investigation 25 years after her death cleared Joan of all charges.
