Martin Luther King Jr. moved to Montgomery, Alabama, with his wife, Coretta Scott King, in 1954. They relocated there when he became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. This move marked the beginning of King's significant involvement in the civil rights movement, which gained momentum in Montgomery with the bus boycott that began in December 1955.
cause he felt like it...XDMartin Luther King moved because he resigned from southern christiancy which is a baptist church. Dr.King was a baptist minister. A baptism is where they dip your head in holy water at a young age but it doesn't have to be a one age just most of the time. Dr. King would baptize people. Baptist is also a certain religion.
why did dr. king move his family to Montgomery Alabama
1954
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, moved to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1954 when he accepted a position as pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. Their relocation was part of King's commitment to social justice and civil rights, which would soon lead to his involvement in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott, sparked by Rosa Parks' arrest for refusing to give up her bus seat, marked a significant turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, with King emerging as a key leader.
His father was a Baptist preacher and wanted his son to move to Atlanta and serve in the same parish as his assistant. He eventually took over as senior pastor when his father retired. I believe the name of the church was Abeneezer Baptist Church in downtown Atlanta.
