Noah was born in 2970 BCE, and he had his sons Shem, Ham and Japeth when he was 500 years old (2470 BCE). It took Noah and his family almost 50 years to build the ark. So, when Noah was 600 years old, the flood came. This makes the year of the flood 2370 BCE. [Some date it differently. For example, Ussher dates it as 2348 BC (Genesis 5:32) After Noah reached 500 years of age, he became father to Shem, Ham, and Jaʹpheth.

(Genesis 7:6-10) 6�Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth. 7�So Noah, along with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives, went into the ark ahead of the floodwaters. 8�Of every clean animal and of every animal that is not clean and of the flying creatures and of everything that moves on the ground, 9�they went inside the ark to Noah by twos, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah. 10�And seven days later the floodwaters came upon the earth.

Noah was born circa 1056 AM (anno mundus or year of the world from Adam as 0 AM). At the age of 500, Noah had 3 sons - the youngest being Shem born about 1 year before construction began - he was told to begin the construction of the Ark which took him at most 100 years to do at that time (see Genesis 7:6,11). He was 600 years old when the worldwide flood began in circa 1656 AM (2348 BC via Ussher's calculations).

After the flood had ended (see Genesis 8:13 - approximately 1 year for the ground to dry out enough to live on), his son Shem, now 102 years old had his first son. Noah lived 350 years after the Flood and died circa 2006 AM. His story begins in Genesis 5 and ends in Genesis 10.
