How do you check safety switches on 231 Massey-ferguson?

I am not a motor head, and have only worked on a MF231 once when one of the safety switches went bad, but here is what i learned: When my tractor failed to start (failed to engage the starter), my first thought was that the starter had gone bad. I removed the starter and had it tested. Starter was confirmed good, so i reinstalled the starter and started testing the safety switches. Under the steering column, in a little opening on top of the main tractor case slightly inset on the starter side (right side if you're sitting behind the wheel). If you remove both of those leads and set either a test light or a multimeter up to test 12vdc, you should see 12vdc or your test light light up on one side of this neutral safety switch as the key is turned. Obviously if the tractor is in neutral this voltage should pass through to the other terminal, if its in neutral and you are not getting voltage through it then look at replacing the switch. If the starter and the neutral safety switch test good, (as it played out in my specific issue) then there is one more switch that can prevent the tractor from getting 12vdc to the starter. Look at the pto shifter knob, when the pto is engaged it will be all the way up (if your sitting in the seat), put it back in neutral and look toward the bottom of the shifter arm, you will see a bracket that when in the up position it depresses a plunge type switch. Pull the leads off of the back of that switch and it should test the same. When you have the key turned you should have light or 12vdc on one of the 2 leads, when connected and of course in neutral, this voltage should pass through to the other lead if the switch is good. If you have no voltage on either lead, check the ignition switch. As far as my issue, i jumpered the pto safety switch (not even sure that is what its called) from lead to lead and my tractor fired right up. Good luck with your troubleshooting!
