Mission San Diego is sometimes called the Plymouth Rock of the West Coast. In November 5, 1775, 800 Indians went to the mission. Father Jayme walked out with his arms outstretched, saying: "Love God my Children". The natives killed him and two other Fathers and burned down the building.
The mission San Jose was founded in 1719.
San Diego was discovered by Juan Cabrillo on Sept. 18, 1542 when he landed at Point Loma Head. The Cabrillo Monument now pays honor to this explorer. It's a beautiful area with tidepools and hiking.
