As it hasn't happened yet, it's impossible to know for certain. However, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support this ... one hesitates to dignify it by calling it a "theory"; it's basically a few crackpots misinterpreting Mayan mythology that even the Mayans themselves seem not to have been too concerned about. There's also some nonsense about something called "Planet X" or "Nabiru" which may or may not be related to the Mayan calendar issue, but there's no scientific evidence for it either so it's equally irrelevant.
