What is the major difference between Comet Hyakutake and Halleys comet?

Halley's Comet was a periodic comet; it returns to the inner system every 76 years. Hale-Bopp is a very long-period comet; it may have been last seen in 2215 BC. That may have been Hale-Bopp's first approach to the Sun; its orbit was likely altered by close brushes with Jupiter then, and again during its last pass in 1997. Hale-Bopp's next appearance may be in or around the year 4530 AD.

What happened 23 July 1995?

* 1995 - Comet Hale-Bopp is discovered and is visibly seen with a naked eye nearly a year later. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_23

Will Comet Hale-Bopp show up again?

Yes, the comet will show up again, but not in our lifetime. The next appearance of Hale-Bopp is not expected until the year 4385 (Yes 4385). A lot will have changed by then - maybe tourists could ride on it!

Comet Hale-Bopp appears how often?

The Hale-Bopp Comet will appear in the inner-solar system in approximately the year 4377. This is due to on April 1996 the comet passed within 0.77-0.771 AU of Jupiter, this distance is close enough for the comet's orbit to be affected by the planet's gravitational force.

What month of the year does Ursa Minor come out?

If you live in the northern hemisphere, Ursa Minor can be seen in every month of the year. It is one of the constellations that never sets, so it can be seen all year round. If you live in the northern hemisphere, Ursa Minor can be seen in every month of the year. How long does it take for us to see hale - bopp comet?

Comet Hale-Bopp is still visible in very large telescopes; estimates indicate that it will be visible until 2030, and may be visible longer than that in the improved telescopes of ten years from now.Comet Hale-Bopp is not expected to return to the inner solar system until the year 4390.

How often does Hale-Bopp appear?

AnswerThe Hale-Bopp comet is now beyond the orbit of Uranus but is expected to still be visible by large telescopes until about 2020. After then, it is not expected to make a return until the year 4534.

Did the Hale-Bopp comet strike Jupiter when it was pulled apart by Jupiter's gravity?

No. You may be thinking of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, which did break up and then crash into Jupiter. Hale-Bopp is still headed outward from the Sun, and is expected to return to the inner solar system around the year 4530.

What comets have been seen in the daytime?

Generally, only the brightest comets are visible in the daytime. There was a very bright comet in 1911, which preceded the appearance of Halley's Comet that year. Hale-Bopp was briefly visible during the day, as well.

How long does it take a comet to orbit the sun?

That all depends on the comet Halley's takes about 76 years where as Hale Bopp takes about 2300 years. Its the same principle with the planets the closer the orbit the faster it goes. Some Comets like Hale Bopp come from the Oort cloud about a light year away that is why it takes so long, where as Halley's goes out round Pluto and back again.

Where can the largest comet be found?

The problem with answering this question is that two of the words used are somewhat vague: what do you mean by 'comet' and what do you mean by 'biggest'?Hale-Bopp has the largest known nucleus of any comet that is clearly and unambiguously a comet. However, 2060 Chiron, also known as 95P/Chiron, is larger than Hale-Bopp and exhibits some comet-like behavior (that's why the two names; the first is a minor planet name, the second is a comet name); it's possible that it could become a short-period comet eventually (within a million years or so).Hale-Bopp has a highly eccentric 2500-year orbit; it's currently somewhere outside the orbit of Neptune and headed outward, which will continue to be the case for the next 1200 years or so.Chiron's 50-year orbit is far less eccentric, but still pretty eccentric; it ranges between roughly the orbits of Saturn and Uranus.

What comet will pass close to the earth in 2010?

This question was posted on September 3, 2011, so the year 2010 is already in the history books. I don't recall any especially impressive comets in 2010. But basically, there are several new, never-before seen comets (or long-period comets last seen during the reign of the Pharaohs, like Hale-Bopp) for which we have no orbital knowledge, that appear each year. Once the comet has been seen three times, we can calculate an orbit, and determine, more or less, where it will be at any future date. But until then, it's a mystery.
