King Edward VI of England: Born 12 October 1537, son of King Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. Became King 28 January 1547, on the death of his father. Coronation 20 February 1547 at Westminster Abbey, London. During his reign, England was governed by a Regency Council, because Edward was so young. Died 6 July 1553, during his final illness attempts were made to prevent his half-sister Mary from succeeding the Crown, replacing her with Edward's cousin Lady Jane Grey. Following Edward's death, Lady Jane reigned for nine days and was overthrown by Mary who became Queen Mary I. Lady Jane was executed by beheading in February of the following year.
