The Lincoln Memorial was officially dedicated on May 30, 1922, and opened to the public shortly thereafter. It was built to honor President Abraham Lincoln and has since become an iconic symbol of American history and democracy. The memorial features a large seated sculpture of Lincoln and inscriptions of two of his most famous speeches.
It was built between 1914 and 1922. Construction began on February 12, 1914 and was completed in 1922, being dedicated on May 30, 1922.
