Possibly you mean 'BC' and 'AD'. BC indeed means Before Christ, i.e. the years counting back from the supposed year of Christ's birth. AD means Anno Domini, a Latin expression translated as 'in the year of our Lord' i.e. counting forward from the supposed year of Christ's birth. Our present year is 2008 AD, so Christ's birth year is supposed to have been 2008 years ago, but nobody knows precisely.
Birth, the birth of Christ, the festival of Christ's birth; Christmas
It stands for Before Christ. The initials BC and AD (Anno Domini) were created after the 525 Easter as a way to divide dates as occurring before or after Christ's birth. Anno Domini Nostri Iesu (Jesu) Christi literally means 'in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ. AD refers to any year after or including the birth of Christ (They were off by a few years in their calculations). The first year AD is 1 AD, intended to be the year of Christ's birth. Preceding 1 AD is the year 1 BC. There was no 12 month period designated Year Zero.
The AD dating system was introduced by Dionysius Exiguus in the 6th century and is based on the supposed birth year of Jesus Christ. The year AD 1 is considered to be the year of Christ's birth.
Warner Sallman painted this picture in 1942.
AD comes after the year provided it is after Jesus Christ's birth. Before his birth, BC comes before the year.
Before the birth of Christ
Before the birth of Christ
AD after a date — as in 1066 AD — means Anno Domini (from Latin, meaning "The year of Our Lord) and counts the number of years from the birth of Christ, supposed to be in the year 0. AD. Prior to this Christians calculate years backwards from the year before Christ's birth (1 BC - I year before Christ) and rising as you get further back in time from this date.
Before Christ= BC After Christ= AD With that being stated, Jesus was born in Year 0
