The aircraft, operated by Air France, crashed shortly after takeoff from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, resulting in the deaths of all 109 people on board and four individuals on the ground. The main trigger was the crash of a Concorde in 2000; all the passengers and crew died. For some years, Concorde had been flying at a loss (even after writing off the huge development costs). After the crash, all Concordes were grounded and airlines took the commercial decision to discontinue the service.
