circa 1979, i sold and installed a :KINGTRON ; cash reg. which had a separate scanner. a rotating set of mirrors directed a laser beam which read the upc code printed on the item being scaned.what most people didn,t realize was, each item in the store had to be scaned and then the discription entered to match the code. later the wholesale groc warehouse downloaded to the store the codes for items being sold.
In 1965 i installed the first : FORTRAN ; operated, solid state N>C>R> 315...in California. the first fully electronic cash reg. i installed was at the NCO club at ft. lewis wa.in 1970. if someone knows when the very first electronics came available. please post..
