the dam has increased the annual flooding of the nile river
Flooding is often the result of wet weather. It could be caused by the rapid thaw of snow, or other things like a dam failure.
McDonald Dam failure happened in 1900.
In areas above the dam (mainly Sudan) the effects of annual flooding is still observed, this occurs in the "summer" season from about May through September. The Aswan High Dam that controlls the flooding of the Nile in Egypt was completed in 1970, since then no unregulated flooding has occured below the dam. Thus the fertility of the soil in the Lower Nile Valley will not now be renewed naturally on an annual basis as it was in pre-dam times.
