How was weaving done before the loom?
Weaving requires a loom to hold the warp (foundation threads) in place for the weft (opposing threads) to be woven through. Thus, weaving was always done using a loom of some type. Before the advent of mechanized weaving processes, beginning in the late 18th century, weaving was performed on "hand-" or manual looms of varying types. This type of weaving is still performed today in primitive regions, as well as by modern hobbyists worldwide.
