Which civil war?
Almost every country on earth has had or is currently having at least one civil war. Not all of them used uniforms; others had them for either the whole war or only some part, or only whre the fighters could be bothered. Please ask again, specifying the war you wish to know about. And no, simply putting it in a category is not enough for such an ambiguous question.

At the beginning of the US Civil War, some of the the Confederate army uniforms were a butternut color. Grey was introduced as soon as these color uniforms could be produced. The US army already had blue uniforms and remained with that color.
Today's combat uniforms do not have specific colours. Many are camouflaged.

Civil war uniforms were mainly made from wool. The reason for the wool was to keep soldiers warm as they were fighting often in cold weather. Southern uniforms however were made from jean cloth and wool.
