There are several dozen known periodic comets, and we have observed many long-period comets as well. New ones are discovered every year. In fact, a new comet was discovered last fall, and should be nicely visible in the spring.
If you are referring to Halley's Comet, it was last seen in 1910 and then in 1986, and is expected to be back around in 2061 or so. However, observations of Halley's Comet go back to the 3rd century BC. Check the Related Links below for more info.
Hopefully some serious advances in medicine come about, as we will need them to view this comet again. It is estimated that this comet will not return for another 29,500 years.
The orbital period of Halley's comet is 75.3 years, and its next visit will be July 28, 2061
Approximately every 76 years 1986 + 76 = 2062
Halley's comet was first seen in 1577 however it was not recognized as a comet. It was Edmund Halley that discovered it as a comet in 1705.
