The $2 bill was first issued in 1862 and discontinued in 1966. The bills were reintroduced in 1976 as part of the Bicentennial.

Since 1976, there have been multiple series beginning in 1995 and (as of this writing) extending to 2013. While in relative terms the 2013 series has seen a marked increase in production, $2 bills make up only about 1% of all bills currently in circulation. If the supply of $2 bills gets low or the demand increases there is nothing keeping the Federal Reserve for issuing more $2 bills.

Contrary to popular misunderstanding, the $2 bill has never been discontinued or withdrawn. Most banks have some on hand and can order them if you wish. Unless the bill has an unusual serial number (and in crisp uncirculated condition), or is dated prior to 1976, it is only worth $2.
