you really shouldn't have to do anything, the mother should handle everything just fine. Let her smell and clean the puppies, and if you try to grab a pup, be sure you talk to the mother to make sure she isn't feeling uneasy. You may have known her for a while, but motehr dogs are very protective over their newborn pups
