You can't go wrong with a string of white lights. They are extremely versatile, and have a classic look that never looks dated. You can get them in a string of singles or in an icicle style.
I always look at wreaths or any sort of floral. Those types of things are sooo overpriced, but if you can get them at an after-Christmas sale, you can get some really good deals. And yes, I'd say lights too... just make sure they're not those LED ones which tend to not last from year to year.
Keep it simple and clean not cluttered. find a theme either all white lights with a wreath and red bow have a flood light shining on the wreath. It's simple clean and not cluttered.
The ridiculously over-sized outdoor blow up frosty's and/or santa's, although my cats are petrified of them.
Oh my god, whatever you do, STAY AWAY from those ridiculous snow globe things, and the silly festive flags. The definition of Tacky.
