What's the difference between evolution and mutation?

Evolution= the major transition from one type of organism to another occurring at the level of the species and higher taxa.

Mutation= a sudden departure from the parent type in one or more heritable characteristics, caused by a change in a gene or a chromosome.

in other words, evolution is when a horse gives birth to a chicken. etc...

and mutation is when a gene or a chromosome changes.
