It is caused by certain inner ear problems, when you have an ear problem it sets your body off causing dizziness and loss of balance and sometimes nausea.

Vertigo is a sensation of spinning or disequilibrium. You might be able to feel it yourself by spinning in place for a while, and then stopping. You may still feel yourself to be spinning although you know you are not. That's vertigo. Vertigo is a medical condition that results from the vestibular system experiencing a dysfunction. It can cause dizziness and disorienting perceptions of motion. It is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
