When I open iPhoto on my MacBook it doesn't automatically import my photos anymore What should I do?

Importing "automatically" is a preference. In iPhoto Prefs you will see the line:
Connecting Camera Opens: menu
Select iPhoto.
Close Prefs.

To have iPhoto open automatically open iPhoto's preferences and make sure that the Connecting camera opens: option is set to iPhoto. The iPod should appear in the left hand pane beneath the Library listing.
