The week that Kate took Cara for a manicure had been very stressful for the Gosselin kids. Jon and Kate had some rather loud disagreements, that the children watched and heard. Jon was the stay at home parent that week, so Kate wasn't at the house with the children. Even though the kids have phone access to both of their parents, it isn't the same as having their mom and dad both there taking care of the kids together.
Parents going through a divorce is a very hard time for most kids. For the Gosselin kids it is even more difficult because they are trying to adjust to their parents not living together, and having to put up with their parents being very unpleasant to each other, all while being filmed for their TV show. Where they are followed around their house and their yard being told to do something cute and act happy. To make matters worse, there are fans and paparazzi hanging out at the end of their driveway, that follow them everywhere they go.
Cara was just sad about her parents fighting and tired of having her picture taken. All which seems very normal for a little 8 year old girl.
