Menelaus of Sparta was commander of the Greek army. His wife Helen ran away with Paris prince of Troy so Menelaus went to get her back basically.
When Menelaus and Helen married, every other man had to swear an oath saying they would not bother the relationship (as Helen was the most beautiful women in the world). However, when visiting Sparta, Helen was kidnapped and brought to Troy. So, Menelaus rallied the Greeks and set out for Troy. In a sense, Menelaus made the decision to go to war with Troy.
That he was so vindictive about King Menelaus stealing his slave-girlfriend that he got in a huff and wouldn't fight alongside his comrades.
The word "angry" is an adjective and so doesn't have a past tense. Only verbs have tenses.
It was not the Queen of Troy - she had nothing to do with the the cause of the war. It was 'much manned Helen'. Helen was wife of Spartan king Menelaus. Visiting prince of Troy Paris (Alexander) got her to come back to Troy with him, also smuggling out a lot of Menelaus' wealth. Menelaus called on his brother Agamemnon, king of Argos for help, so they organised all the neghbouring kingdoms into a piratical expedition to Asia Minor, and set about looting the area. When after 10 years they had cleaned out the coast and islands, they invested the only place left worth looting, Troy. After the Greeks gained the upper hand, king Priam of Troy offered to give Helen back, but the Greeks demanded also Menelaus' property which was more important. Priam refused, so the seige continued, and after the fall of the city, Menelaus took Helen home along with the loot as compensation.
The kidnapping took place at night, so Menelaus was asleep.
Menelaus was the brother of Agamemnon, and was the king of Sparta. He was best known for being the husband of Helen. Helen had left with Paris, and Menelaus fought to get her back in the Trojan war.

Menelaus went to war against the Trojans for stealing his wife, so the Trojans would be his foes as would any of the gods like Aphrodite, Ares, and Demeter who sided on behalf of the Trojans.
