Here is the story of the life of Zachary Taylor.Zachary Taylor was born on November 24,1784 in Virginia.In 1785 his family to what is now called Northern Kentucky.In 1810 he married Margaret Mackall Smith.In 1835 his daughter Sarah married Jefferson Davis.In 1846 president James K.Polk sent Taylor to Texas.In 1847 he returned to his Louisiana plantation.In 1849 Taylor became the 12th president of the United States.He chose Millard Fillmore as his vice president.Zachary Taylor died on July 9,1850 just five days after a July 4th celebration.Two months after his death Congress passed the Compromise of 1850 which allowed slavery in some territories and it added California as a free state.Zachary Taylor is buried at the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville,Kentucky.
