Thales discovered static electricity by rubbing a peice of amber against a silk cloth.

The kind of electricity you create by rubbing a balloon on your head?

Rubbing a balloon on your head can produce static electricity. This can also be accomplished by shuffling your feet across a carpet, when the humidity is very low. Another method that is used in science classes is the rubbing of a glass rod against a silk cloth. This allows the transfer of electrons to the rod. Another method is the use of a Van de Graaff generator, or a Whimshurst machine.

Why clothes dried in cloth dryer tends to stick?

It's -Static Electricity-. When all the moisture is gone, with all the clothes rubbing each other, the friction will create Static. Kinda like rubbing a balloon on your head and putting it on your shirt, it will stick. The drier it is outside the less rubbing it takes and the longer it will last.

How can you make static electricity using a cloth and a pen?

you cant

Does a balloon have static electricity?

Only if you rub it on a piece of cloth.

If rubber is a good insulator why do balloons attract static electricity?

Insulators can easily have static electricity. In case of conductors we have to follow some delicate procedure to store charges on it. Usually that is known to be electrostatic induction. But in case of insulators just rubbing would do to produce static electricity. Example: when a glass rod is rubbed against a silk cloth, then glass lose electrons to the silk and so glass becomes positively charged and silk negatively charged. So balloons being a bad conductor is good example to have static electricity. If it is good conductor then charges would flow through them easily and so not possible to produce static electricity just by rubbing.

How can you produce static electricity?

Rubbing a plastic body like comb on dry hair can impart static charges on it. Also, glass rod rubbed on silk cloth, ebonite rod rubbed on silk cloth. Most of them we have learnt in our schools. If you want a something really huge, try Van de Graaff generator.

Why do bits of paper adhere to a comb that was rubbed with a flannel cloth?

Because of a static charge caused by the rubbing.

What is static electricity and balloons?

Static electricity is an electric charge built up on persons or objects through friction, and a balloon is a rubber *ball8 thing that you blow up. your welcome

How does static electricity build up?

say, if you have a glass rod and you want to make static electricity with a cloth. you rub the two objects together which causes FRICTION. in the atom is a nucleus, shells and two subatomic particles called protons and neutrons. protons have a positive charge and neutrons have no charge. then there are electrons in the shells orbiting. when the two objects are rubbed the electrons get transferred to the cloth which makes the cloth negatively charged and the glass rod positive.
