No. Carrots are not the main food for a horse, grain and especially hay are. Carrtos are just an extra little treat. Your horse will starve if he has no hay, just carrots, or he may founder.
No. Who diets a horse on carrots?
No, carrots are actually very sweet and should be considered as treats for horses. A horse on a diet should eat a limited number of carrots, even more limited than a normal horse.
Absolutely not. A horse would most likely die from a diet of just carrots. Horses need forage (like grass or hay) daily to keep things flowing in their digestive tracks. Most if not all horses that aren't wild need a grain in their diet also for energy and weight. If a horse needs to be on a diet you simply cut their grain back
One or two carrots a day is sufficient for an adult horse and only one or half a carrot for ponies and miniatures. If you feed too many carrots you run the risk of making the horse too fat, causing colic, or even triggering laminitis/ founder from over feeding.
false
No! Never give your horse a diet that only feeds carrots. This can cause colic, a condition that can be fatal to horses. If you feed your horse a hard feed (such as pony pellets, chaff, economix, etc...), try and cut down on the amount you feed him/her slowly. Immediate changes in diet can 'stun' the stomach and also cause colic. Example: You are feeding your horse three scoops chaff and two scoops pellets. The next day you will feed two and a half scoops of chaff and one and a half scoops of pellets. You will decrease the amount of feed you give your horse but you must also take into consideration how much your pony/horse is working. I would suggest speaking to your local vet or horse riding instructor (or even your local saddlery staff!) about the changes in your horses diet.
yes quite a lot actually but only if he is feed a strict diet of raw carrots. if he has trouble pooping, stop feeding him raw carrots
