-the pencil looks broken & bent in water. - the pencil looks bent, because of the refraction of light, that causes that to happen. -pencil looks really thick, in water.
Because of refraction of light
A Pencil is easier to balance on it's eraser because the eraser has a more flater surface.
yes, if the pencil is in water, its refraction because when a wave enters a new medium, the waves speed changes and moves in a different angle. that's why a pencil looks broken in water

It's a play on words. It would be pointless to try to write with a broken pencil because the pencil lead is not pointed.
Because it's pointless !
Rer
because there is no friction between pencils and glass and glass is harder than the lead in the pencil .and glass surface is smoother than the surface of paper
Any light rays crossing the air-water border will be refracted, that is, bent. So, objects above the water will appear displaced. In other words, they will appear to be where they are not. You can see this phenomenon by placing a pencil in a glass of water. The pencil appears broken and discontinuous. This optical illusion is due to refraction.
First, remove broken pieces slowly. Then obtain new pencil and try to relax this time.
Because of refraction of light
If the speed of light were the same in air and water, then the pencil would appearstraight, NOT broken. The beginning of the simplest explanation of why it doesappear broken is the fact that the speed of light is different in air and in water, and that causes light to bend when goes from one into the other.
Because you skin is far too soft, a pencil lead needs a rougher surface to leave a mark.
