IDDM is associated with Type 1 or "juvenile" Diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes, your pancreas does not produce any insulin, therefore, someone w/ this will have to take insulin for the rest of there life. With NIDDM or Adult onset diabetes your body's pancreas is still making a small amount of insulin. Some people w/ NIDDM can get by with taking pills, and changing their diet and exercise. When those don't work , then one would have to take insulin injections to help control their glucose levels in their body. But it would never change to IDDM. I hope that answers the question for you.

What does NIDDM mean?

NIDDM is Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus. It's the most common type of diabetes, and can be managed without insulin, with diet and excercise. Get more information here:http://www.healthline.comNo matter what information you find on the net, please do not diagnose yourself. What causes the pacreas to stop making or producing insulin?

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder in which there is an absence or insufficient production of insulin. Two major classifications of diabetes are Type I or insulin-dependent mellitus (IDDM) and Type II, non-insulin dependent mellitus (NIDDM). Though many Type II diabetics use insulin but may still retain some degree of pancreatic function.

What is actos?

ACTOS (pioglitazone hydrochloride) is an oral antidiabetic agent that acts primarily by decreasing insulin resistance. ACTOS is used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes). Pharmacological studies indicate that ACTOS improves sensitivity to insulin in muscle and adipose tissue and inhibits hepatic gluconeogenesis. ACTOS improves glycemic control while reducing circulating insulin levels. ACTOS is a thiazolidinedione antidiabetic agent that depends on the presence of insulin for its mechanism of action. ACTOS decreases insulin resistance in the periphery and in the liver resulting in increased insulin-dependent glucose disposal and decreased hepatic glucose output. Unlike sulfonylureas, pioglitazone is not an insulin secretagogue. Pioglitazone is a potent and highly selective agonist for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARg). PPAR receptors are found in tissues important for insulin action such as adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and liver. Activation of PPARg nuclear receptors modulates the transcription of a number of insulin responsive genes involved in the control of glucose and lipid metabolism.

What are 2 main types of diabetes?

What problems could you have with type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is also known as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) {meaning it maybe controlled without the help of insulin injections} type 2 diabetes is generally seen in individuals above the age of 30-35 because of high levels of glucose in the blood, the person can present with the following symptoms: frequent urination, increased thirst, dry mouth, frequent urination at nights, tiredness, fatigue, weight loss, blurring of vision, itching over the genitals nausea, headache, mood changes. however, the above symptoms cannot alone label a person as a diabetic. it must be confirmed with a fasting and post prandial blood sugar test. an oral glucose tolerance test is very helpful. also the HbA1c test is spot on diagnostic as it provides the level of sugar over a period of around 3 months.
