When a pt cruiser runs out of gas and still wont restart after filling it what could be the reason?

The fuel lines may be dry so it may take a little bit of effort to fill them up again.
When you turn the ignition to ON the car's fuel pump will attempt to fill the lines. Turn ON, wait a few seconds, turn off. Repeat a few times and then attempt to start.
You should hear the fuel pump humming from the back seat. If not your fuel pump may have died as horrific death by not being properly cooled by the fuel it is supposed to sit in.
