Best Answer

yes, it's OK to charge the battery. A switch like this is controlled by voltage so low voltage could make the switch not work.

Does the 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue have a starter solenoid?

Every car with an electric starter has a starter solenoid. That is how cars work. When you start the car, only a trickle of electricity goes through the wire. That trickle of electricity goes to the solenoid. That trickle of electricity tells a magnet, "Get busy." The magnet closes a switch. The switch completes a circuit between the battery and the starter. Then the starter engages and your engine starts. That switch is your solenoid. If you find your starter, you can trace the wire back to the switch. You will see where another wire from that point attaches to the battery. Now you know the location of your solenoid.

How is the Starter wired on a 1969 Chevelle?

The battery cable on the positive side goes to the starter. The purple wire goes from the ignition switch to the neutral safety switch then down to the starter. On the solenoid the is a "R" and that is where the wire from the coil goes. The "R" means resistor

Where is the solenoid located on the motor of a yard machine lawn mower?

Assuming you are referring to the starter solenoid, the easiest way to find it is by folowing the positive battery cable from the battery. The cable goes from the battery to the solenoid and then continues from the solenoid to the starter.

Where is the starter relay for a 91' ford escort stationwagon?

There isn't one. The main battery cable goes to the solenoid which then activates the starter from current from the ignitiion switch.

How can you tell if a solenoid is good on a go kart?

The wire that goes to the starter button can be connected to the power wire coming from the battery. Just tough the wire quickly. If the solenoid engages the starter, then it is ok. If not, then there is either no power from the battery of the solenoid is bad.

What would cause a starter to keep engaging by itself?

Most likely the solenoid or wiring depending on the vehicle. A starter needs 2 things to operate. A current to close the circuit in the solenoid (small wire/trigger wire) and a power source to turn the starter itself (large battery cable). Battery cable goes directly to the starter from the positive battery terminal with an on/off switch in between (solenoid). The trigger wire (small wire) controls the solenoid by closing the circuit when there is power supplied to the small wire. If there is no power at the small wire then the solenoid must be stuck in the closed position unless the large battery cables to the solenoid are connected incorrectly.

What does a starter relay look like on a ford escort?

There is no starter relay on an Escort. The main battery positive cable goes directly to the starter. A small wire with a clip on it marked s goes to the solenoid. The main battery current to the starter is supplied with this solenoid.

Where is the starter relay on an 86 jetta?

there is no relay for the starter. there is a solenoid (switch) and ignition switch. the solenoid is part of the starter (small cylindrical shape above starter housing. the solenoid has the battery and ignition connections). and the ignition switch is where the car-key goes. you need at least 8v from the ignition to the solenoid for the starter to operate. use a multimeter. otherwise check your starter - battery connections. otherwise replace the starter. otherwise, take off the starter and inspect inside the starter housing. if the starter is clicking but not turning the engine the starter teeth aren't engaging with the teeth on the flywheel. get a manual to the car here: http://www.germanautoparts.com/Books/Volkswagen

Dose the positive battery terminal hook to solenoid in a 1985 f-150 inline 300 6cylinder?

Positive Battery Cable Routing on F-150sI'm not familiar with your '85 model, but I have both an '89 and a '93 F-150 with the same 4.9L/300 straight six engine. On both of my vehicles, the cable from the Positive terminal of the battery goes to the input [always "hot"] terminal of a solenoid mounted on the right front inner fender. A similar heavy cable goes from the solenoid output [ignition switch controlled] terminal to the starter. There are also lighter conductors that go from the hot input terminal of the solenoid to the vehicle's electrical system.

Where does the positive cable hook on a 2001 dodge caravan from battery to where?

Normally goes to the starter or starter solenoid.

Is an international 300 utility a positive ground motor?

The positive battery terminal goes to ground, the negative terminal goes to the starter solenoid.
