If no shelter is available a ditch is your best option as a last resort.
You shouldn't. Contrary to popular belief opening windows during a tornado does nothing to save a house and may in fact make damage worse. If a tornado is coming opening windows is a waste of precious time that you should use to take cover.
If there is no shelter available, lie in a a ditch, culvert, or depression. Get as low as possible and cover your head.
Lie down in a ditch or depression in the ground and cover your head.
Lie in a ditch or depression in the ground if you cannot get to shelter.
If you are at home and a tornado is coming got to the basement or cellar and crouch down facing a wall, covering your head. Stay away from windows. If you do not have a basement go to an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor of your house. A bathroom can also provide good shelter, especially if it has a bath tub. If you take cover in the bathtub cover yourself with blankets and pillows. If you have children get in the tub on top of them. If you live in a mobile home abandon it for a sturdier structure. If you are in a car get to a sturdy building if possible. If not try to drive at a right angle (or diagonal depending on the direction of the road) to the tornado's path in order to get out of the way. If the tornado is getting close abandon the vehicle and take cover in a ditch or depression as a last resort. Do not take cover under a bridge.
If you have not shelter, you must lie down in a ditch or depression in the ground and cover your head.
Things not to do in a tornado:Go outside (unless you have to to reach your storm cellar.)Attempt to flee your neighborhood in a vehicle.Seek shelter under a bridge.Take time to open or close windows.
find the nearest basement where you can shelter yourself. If you are out in the open, try to get as far away from it as you can.
If no shelter is available lie in a ditch. Do not seek shelter under a bridge.
If you are caught in the open during a tornado, the best course of action is to seek shelter immediately. If no shelter is available, lie flat in a low-lying area such as a ditch and cover your head and neck with your arms. Avoid areas with trees or power lines that can fall on you.
It is out on test and should be out on open in 5-30 days!
You don't. You should actually keep the windows shut to try to prevent wind from entering your home.
