Platelets are the formed elements that have a role in blood clotting, and would seal an injury to a vessel walls. The platelets are cell fragments. Platelets are also known as thrombocytes.
The verdigris that forms on the surface of copper or bronze material exposed to the atmosphere, is generally a copper carbonate. It is not a copper oxide, which is black. Close to the sea, it will also contain basic copper chloride.
Thrombocytes are the smallest formed elements in the blood. In my Medical Terminology book, it says "The smallet formed elements found in blood are platelets. Although they are sometimes called thrombocytes, they are not true cells, as the term erroneously suggests, but merely fragments of cells."

The green coating on a copper vessel in the rainy season is due to a process called oxidation. When copper reacts with moisture and carbon dioxide in the air, it forms a layer of greenish copper carbonate on its surface. This layer, called patina, protects the copper underneath from further corrosion.
This is copper's version of oxidisation. It occurs very visibly on buildings with copper trim on the roofs.

A vessel can be a means of traveling over the water - and thus by metaphor, of traveling over the sea of emotion. A vessel can be a kind of medium through which something creative and powerful can flow - as in a "vessel for the Holy Spirit." The Chalice on the altar is a vessel.
