Firstly it can be he OR SHE! They have to do coursework (but now I think they are getting rid of some of it). Then they have to take a series of tests in the subjects they have chosen. This can cause a lot of stress to pupils but the result is usually happy depending on how much they want to succeed.
If you did acting for your drama GCSE mock in year 10 but wanted to switch to lighting design for your actual GCSE in year 11, you could do that but you would need to remember that you will not have taken a practice test for lighting design. Your score on the GCSE for year 11 will be the final score.

Ebac GCSE is a new exam that will be a lot harder than GCSE. it will be used in the next 4 years. so the yr7s this year will have a greater chance of taking this test. this test is for people in year 11.

A physical education GCSE is PE (sport). However, I think dance can also be included sometimes as a physical education GCSE. They are taken in year 11 of secondary school at age 15 or 16

Depending on your school, the general age you chose your options if you're studying them through Year 10 and 11 (other schools have different paths, ie, a year studying each option from Year 9-11) is 13/14, basically around Year 9 March/April. EDIT: At my school we choose them in February of year eight.
