overall, the electrons have a larger charge than an uncharged ion,

so the overall force between the positive nucleus and the electrons is higher (opposite forces attract)

the electrons move slightly closer to the nucleus, therefore slightly reducing the atom's diameter.

What change does an atom have if it gains an electron?

It will have a negative charge.

Is a positive ion an atom that has gained an electron?

No, an electron has a negative charge. Therefore, if an originally neutral atom gains an electron, it will have a negative charge.

When an atom gains or looses electrons what to the charge of atom?

When an atoms gains an electron the atom changes into a negative ion and when an atom loses an electron the atom changes into a positive ion.

What type of charge does an ion have when an atom gains an electron?

Negative.

How does an atom becom a negative ion?

It becomes whenever it gains one or more electron.

How does a positive ion become a neutral atom?

It can be positive or negative depending on if the atom loses or gains an electron. If it gains an electron it becomes negative and if it loses an electron it becomes positive.

When an atom gains an electron or more it directly becomes negative ion?

True. An atom that gains one or more electrons forms a negative ion.

If an atom gains an electron would it have a negative or positive charge?

it would have a negative charge

What happens when a atom gains an electron?

When an atom gains an electron it becomes an ion with a charge of negative one. This charge comes from the electron's negativity, which changes the atom's balanced ratio of electrons to protons.
