where did it take place
May 19, 1536, 8 o'clock in the morning Although in her trial she denied all charges brought against her of adultery, incest and conspiracy to murder the king, Anne accepted her fate. Anne's execution took place on Tower Green, a more secluded spot, where the number of people gathered could be controlled -- just in case Anne would dishonor the king in her farewell speech. Anne, however, would not take that opportunity. Instead she was dignified to the end. This was the first public execution of an English queen.

Anne Boleyn (c1501-07 - 1536), the second wife of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) provided a fascinating historical story. Capturing the love of a powerful monarch, causing all sorts of historical reforms to take place (the break with Rome, etc.), eventually marrying the king, but failing him on the thing he wanted most - a male heir. Anne had made many enemies at court, and her failure to provide the male heir was probably the cause of Anne being accused on trumped up charges of adultery, incest, witchcraft - all treasonable. Condemned to death, even her execution was unusual. Her alleged offences should have seen her burned at the stake, but this was commuted to beheading. But, rather than let her face the axe (which wasn't always an accurate option), Henry sent for an expert French swordsman to behead Anne. She went bravely to her death on 19 May 1536, even joking about how slim her neck was, the night before the execution. Her body was put in an arrow chest and interred in the chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London. Probably one of the most important reasons that Anne Boleyn is still well known today, is that she was the mother of one of the greatest monarchs: Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603). This was her posthumous triumph.

Jane Seymour was Queen of England as the third wife of King Henry VIII. She succeeded Anne Boleyn as queen consort following the latter's execution for high treason, incest and adultery in May 1536. Jane married King Henry VIII at the Palace of Whitehall, Whitehall, London, on 30 May 1536, just eleven days after Anne Boleyn's execution. She was publicly proclaimed as queen consort on 4 June, but was never crowned, due to a plague in London where the coronation was to take place.
