Abbottabad was named after British Deputy Commissioner Lawrece Abbott in the midst of 19th Century. This place was a Valley with a small in North East which is today known as Nawashehr, towards west there were few houses and in the midst of this Valley the plains were known as "Rush' which had a small stream flowing diagnolly from North to South and joined Daur river after crossing Dhamtour. British set up a Brigade Centre, a Bazar,Church & Hospital in m1860s, then later around 1882 Sardar Sher Muhammad Khan who settled in exile from Afghanistan inhabited Kunj which is in the foothill of Surban Mountain towards South-East.
