Three battle of Atlanta were fought, indeed.

The first one on July 20, 1864. It was also called Battle of Peachtree Creek and was fought about 5 kilometers Northward outside Atlanta's entrenched camp.

The Confederate offensive aiming to break and defeat the Union front on the Peachtree Creek was repulsed. The Confederates fell back into The Atlanta's fortifications, which were now directly invested from 2 sides.

The second one on July 21-22, 1864. It was called Battle of Atlanta.

The Confederates set out from the fortifications attempting to defeat the Union Army of Tennessee and break, by so doing, the East side's front of investment.

They were again repulsed and forced to retreat within the city's entrenchments.

The third one on July 28, 1864. It was called Battle of Ezra Church.

Atlanta had been in the meantime invested from the East, North and West sides

This time the Confederates set out Westward from Atlanta attempting to defeat

the same Union Army of Tennessee deployed on the position of Ezra Church.

They didn't succeeded and that third setback led to the retreat of the Confederates Southward from Atlanta to avoid of being hopeless surrounded.

The battle, or better said, the three battles was/were a decisive Union's victory.

The Commanders were John Bell Hood for the Confederates and William Tecumseh Sherman for the Unionists
