In the 1930's, Britain and France had a defence agreement with Poland.
On 1 September 1939, Germany attacked Poland, so on 3 September 1939, Britain and France both declared war on Germany. The United States became militarily involved when they declared war on Japan on 8 December 1941 - the day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. Germany declared war on the US on 11 December 1941.
