You may not stop or paqrk in this area except to pick up or discharge a passenger (providing you are not preventing a bus from pulling in or out of the bus top). In NYC, the painted curbs are more advisory than anything else - it means that there is some traffic regulation in effect there. The traffic law is guided by the signs or other indicators mounted on poles at or near the curb. So even if the curb isn't painted, the signs are what you have to obey.
